The weather was ideal for the annual Autumnal family portrait of my brother, sis-in-law, and nephew. This years request was for water in the background. That was easy to find, back home. Alas, lots of people were enjoying the weather there too. With a polite word and clever framing, we were able to situate ourselves on a small dock we ended up sharing with a family fishing. The additional challenge was to pull focus back from a five year old boy watching others with worms and bugs. He’s such a boy!
Fresh coffee, croissants from the bakery, nectarines from the farmers market, blanket in the backyard…Saturday morning picnic.
I put down my drawing pad and with smudged fingers, laid back with my morning muse, to watch clouds drift by. “Look! A leafy sea-dragon!” “Babe, they all look like leafy sea-dragons.”
Swap conté crayon for camera and call me Saffron ♥
That is what I made at my yard sale today…$1.50. Yes, it was a long weekend. No, I didn’t wrap the adjoining neighbourhoods in signage. Yes, I started early. No, I wasn’t selling hot ticket items (apparently). Yes, it was pretty pitiful. Yup.
But, I met a couple of new neighbours, I got in some sketchbook and painting time, and I hung out with my bff for a while. I’d say that was quality time…even if I didn’t make enough to buy more art supplies (sigh).
The rain and dark skies that Hurricane Sandy had brought, have lifted and the sun is indeed shining on this Autumn Toronto morning. Seeing that beautiful morning sun shine through the golden leaves was lovely. Add in the bluest of skies, and well, it is called for a photo to be taken. In addition, I’ve always wondered what kind of tree this is. Its not a maple…but damn…what is? Any arborists out there?
You never know what you will spot on a walk. Recently I posted a photo I took on just such a walk…it was the word Ben written on a gate. I had happened upon this days after my nephew Ben was born. Today, I passed the same gate but noticed something a little extra. Keep your eyes open folks, who never know what you might see…or who is watching.
